Overview & Role
MCD is Ireland's largest music promoter, acting as a guide to news relating to live music, club, theatre and comedy. The company has been in operation for over a decade, and as a result of the competitive nature of the industry, it had decided to revamp its website's UI design and UX to improve user experience and increase customer satisfaction.
Recognizing the pivotal role of online media and ticket sales in the entertainment industry, we understood the website's crucial role in shaping the experiences of showgoers. Our objective was crystal clear: design a digital platform that immediately immersed users in an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation, ultimately compelling them to purchase tickets.
Our creative strategy revolved around bold, vibrant imagery and dynamic visual effects, laying the foundation for an enthralling user journey.
Challenges & Objectives
The aim of this project was to provide a modern, user-friendly, and visually appealing website that allows users to easily navigate the site and access information with ease.
Given the dynamic nature of events evolving weekly, it was imperative that the website flawlessly presented every piece of content. Prioritising user experience, we ensured that audiences accessing the site from different devices could effortlessly discover the information they were looking for. The website aimed to be a central hub for a diverse range of users, all brought together by their shared passion for live entertainment. The website's objectives were well-defined:
To present event listings in a compelling and user-friendly format
Facilitate seamless ticket sales
Optimize search ranking for increased visibility
Foster lead generation to nurture audience engagement
Reflect the infectious hype and energy surrounding each show.
Our journey commenced with a thorough needs analysis and planning phase. Through collaboration with MCD's internal stakeholders, we garnered invaluable insights. It was crucial to align these discoveries with MCD's commercial objectives, as this alignment guided our strategy, setting clear KPIs and conversion rates that steered every design and development decision.
We began by analysing the current website to identify pain points, user behaviour, and design opportunities. The team also reviewed competitors' websites to identify what works well and what needs improvement. This analysis informed the redesign of the website's UI design and UX.
We created wireframes while collaborating closely with the client to refine the design and ensure that the final product meets users' needs and expectations.
Design Insights Driving the Project
Optimising Mobile Display: Prioritising an exceptional mobile experience, we crafted a design that elegantly presented two shows in the listing, ensuring a seamless interface for users on the go, eliminating aimless scrolling.
Artist Empowerment through Imagery: To enhance individual artist promotion, we embraced an all-black design, allowing captivating imagery to take center stage and create an immersive user experience, drawing attention to the featured artists.
Strategic Use of Colour: Acknowledging the previous site's overuse of the red brand colour, we implemented a thoughtful colour strategy, judiciously incorporating red to establish a visual hierarchy that highlights key elements, especially primary banner CTAs.
Impactful Homepage Banner: Recognising the homepage banner's significance in showcasing multiple shows without overwhelming users, our solution integrated visual touchpoints and animation, facilitating seamless browsing of event listings. This prime site real estate became both visually engaging and functionally beneficial.

The MCD website now stands as a dynamic embodiment of the brand's energy and vibrancy. As users embark on their show journey, they are greeted by a bold and immersive digital experience, setting the tone for unforgettable moments.
